I think respect for motherhood may be geographic? Around here I get awkward silences because I'm NOT planning for a baby.

You are more than welcome to equal opportunity, but equal outcome is an entirely different matter. I'm no feminist, but I support your right to work, vote, drink, smoke and live your life in any way that you choose. When you say that X number of women (or any minority group) have to be in a certain position or else it is a sign of discrimination (AA admissions for instance) then we have a difference of opinion. Outcomes should be neutral in all areas except performance.

We have unmarried women because girls are taught to desire men who don't exist. We have unmarried women because loose morals remove the need to marry. We have unmarried women because there are more women than men and polygamy is verboten. Did I miss any?

EDIT: And for all their talk about "independence", women seem to be quite dependent on the Nanny State (to which many functions of the family have been abrogated).

Ah. But fldsprt They are out there. They are just harder to find nowadays. Vice Versa- I teach my son to look for those hard to find women, also.

O.K. So- Let me clarify. I don't teach my children to look for a mate first and foremost. First I would like to see them GET ON THEIR OWN TWO FEET!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you must have a boyfriend/girlfriend at least keep in mind the possibility and DANGER that you just might fall in love- so keep your eyes open to some red flags.

I fail to see how that relates to nannies. I've known several; they were all hired in families where the parents were married and both worked. The man and woman thus both benefitted from the nanny's service.

Yes, I have seen that in my own job when dealing with Medicaid patients. It is much more difficult to get approval for state programs if it is a male applying. Of course that is hearsay, but it is my experience based on patients I come into contact with.

I believe there is a whole bevy of government entitlements (and some in the private sector) that are available not to men but to America's most favored "minority" [sic] - women.
